Win will mean nothing – Marques

Winning both home and away over champions Orlando Pirates this season will count for nothing unless Moroka Swallows can achieve a result at the weekend against lowly AmaZulu, says coach Zeca Marques.

“The season is not just about beating Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs. Of course it’s good to win against Pirates but I’d happily lose to those two rivals if we won all our other games.

“That would be enough to make us champions!” he said in the wake of the Birds’ fighting performance on Tuesday when they came from two goals down to beat Pirates 3-2.

“I’m more worried about now how we play against AmaZulu on Saturday. The win over Pirates we must out behind us and we have to stay humble.

“But obviously from a psychological point of view, beating Pirates was a huge result for us. There will be a sense of belief now that we can go on.

“I keep saying to the players that you have to think big if you want to win big. We can beat any of the top teams on our day and we showed that last night.”

Swallows host struggling AmaZulu at the Dobsonville Stadium at 8.15pm on Saturday.

“If we win two in a row we’ll be back in the top eight,” added Marques. “We must now focus on the matches going forward.”
