Botes to boost Stars attack

Platinum Stars will be pleased to have their veteran striker Henrico Botes back in Absa Premiership action when they take on Pretoria University at the weekend, said coach Cavin Johnson.

“Botes is having the season of his life,” said the coach of the form of the 33-year-old Namibian international, who is the club’s top scorer.

Botes had to sit out their last league match against Orlando Pirates because of suspension and Johnson said the effect was obvious. “We missed him in key moments.”

The suspension was because of an accumulation of four cautions, which earns the offender an automatic one match ban.

Botes did get a run out on Sunday when Stars edged past National First Division club Dynamos in the Nedbank Cup. He captained the side in place of regular skipper Vuyo Mere, who was given a rest.

Stars, who lie third in the Absa Premiership standings, next face AmaTuks at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace on Sunday.

Botes has seven league goals this season and is three behind the league’s leading marksman Bernard Parker of Kaizer Chiefs

Botes is already just one goal short of the total of eight he scored in league and cup football for Platinum Stars last season.
