Bucs to rest Chinyama for Stars clash

Orlando Pirates are likely to rest Zimbabwe international Takesure Chinyama despite his haul of four goals at the weekend when they take on fellow high flyers Platinum Stars at the Orlando Stadium on Wednesday night.

Coach Roger de Sa says he will use Collins Mbesuma instead to rest the beefy striker, who scored at will in the African Champions League first round, first leg tie against Djabal of the Comoros Islands at the same venue on Saturday night.

“I gave Collins a rest on Saturday because he can’t play three games in a week. Neither can Chinyama. So we have got to do a little bit of rotation with them,” said the Pirates coach.

De Sa added he did not want to detract from Chinyama’s performance but that it would have been a lot tougher in a game against a Premier Soccer League team.

“The defender marking Chinyama took him up on his shoulder – that would never happen in the PSL.”

Pirates are still without the injured Benni McCarthy, who has not played since September because of a hamstring pull suffered while on international duty with Bafana Bafana.

He now has a knee complaint and is not likely to play for at least another fortnight, said Pirates officials on Tuesday.
