Chiefs to train in Lesotho
Kaizer Chiefs will be heading to Lesotho next month to spend part of their mid-season break training in the mountain kingdom.
The club’s football manager Bobby Motaung has confirmed that the Absa Premiership leaders will be in Maseru.
Chiefs’ squad members – save for those who will compete at the African Nations Cup finals – return from mid-season holidays on January 7 and Motaung says that after around two weeks’ work at the club’s’ headquarters at Naturena, they will then travel to Lesotho.
There they will continue their training plus play friendly matches against local teams.
Motaung has been to Lesotho to check on facilities and met with the country’s sports minister Thesele Maseribane during his trip.
Lesotho are upgrading one of the pitches that Chiefs intend to use during their camp.
The fixtures for the matches have yet to be set but will be against the top local teams.
Chefs have several thousand supporters in Lesotho and the visit is likely to engender much excitement, even without star attractions Siphiwe Tshabalala, Morgan Gould and Itumeleng Khune.
Chiefs are the only one of the 16 PSL teams who have so far announced they will leave the country for part of their mid-season break.
Black Leopards were considering matches in Botswana while Pirates have been invited to a tournament in a unidentified African country but neither have yet decided on their final plans.
