We deserved more - Mngqithi

Golden Arrows coach Manqoba Mngqithi believes his side deserved more than a draw, after they played to a thrilling 2-2 stalemate with SuperSport United in a Premiership clash in Atteridgeville on Sunday.

Having twice taken the lead, Arrows were unable to hold onto their 2-1 advantage, with United grabbing the late equaliser through Mor Diouf in the 86th minute.

"Honestly speaking, I think the team fought well," Mngqithi said after the match.

"We were unfortunate in many instances, hitting the upright in the first half and creating some chances that never really gave us much.

"It was unfortunate to concede a goal in the last few minutes of the match."

The Abafana Bes'thende coach was a little disappointed to only take a point from the game, despite ending a three-match losing streak – after going down to Bloemfontein Celtic, Maritzburg United and Kaizer Chief in their last three league encounters.

"Maybe if you were to ask me before the match, I would take the draw," Mngqithi said.

"But now that we had the chance of having the three points in the bag, I feel hard done by. Generally, I think the team played better (than the last three matches)."

Meanwhile, a frustrated Matsatsantsa boss Gavin Hunt said he was unhappy with the way his side conceded goals and was critical of his defensive unit.

"There's not much I can say really as the defending for the two goals was poor," Hunt said.

"We weren't good enough because we had the game and there wasn't any real danger (of conceding).

"The first goal, they had a long throw-in, a flick on and it was a mickey mouse goal that they scored. I don't know what the goalkeeper was coming out for and the defenders just had to clear the ball out but we tried to get clever.

He said it was amateur defending on the part of his players and the second goal was equally poor.

The draw was United's 10th of the season, with the Pretoria outfit languishing in the bottom half of the standings, having only claimed a single league victory this season.

In Sunday's only other fixture, Mamelodi Sundowns ended a run of 10 matches without a victory, when they beat Celtic 1-0 in Bloemfontein.
