Tuks demolish Ajax in Cape Town
University of Pretoria continued with their unbeaten run when they bounced back from a goal down to defeat Ajax Cape Town 5-1 at Cape Town Stadium thanks to four goals by Aubrey Ngoma.
It was the Urban Warriors’ fourth Absa Premiership defeat of the season.
Maarten Stekelenburg made one change to the starting line-up which featured against Orlando Pirates on Tuesday evening, with Paul Rusike being replaced by Lebogang Manyama on the left flank.
The Zimbabwean wasn’t even on the bench as the Urban Warriors welcomed the availability of their new Brazilian winger Wanderson.
It was a very cagey opening quarter and it took Mame Niang 15 minutes to create the first chance at goal when he rose above Matthew Booth to head at goal but Sander Westerveld was equal to it.
On the 24th minute, Koen van de Laak took a crack at goal from outside the box but his effort went into the stands.
The breakthrough arrived five minutes later, when Khama Billiat dragged the ball to the byline and crossed. The ball was met by Manyama who half-volleyed it into the back of the net.

Three minutes before the break the scores drew level when Aubrey Ngoma struck a shot inside the box which curled over Westerveld and into the top right corner of the net.
Minutes after the break Ajax nearly took the lead when Billiat’s diagonal shot glanced across the face of goal to go out at the far post.
Steve Barker made the first change of the game, when he took off former Ajax man Dipsy Selolwane in place of Thabo Mosadi, while Wanderson was handed his debut when he replaced Manyama on the flank.
Tuks started to poke around the Ajax goal mouth which saw appeals for handball waved away in the box, but it was followed by a shot by Mame Niang which found the back of the net in the 74th minute.
The goal by the Senegalese forward seemed to unsettle the home side as they found themselves in further trouble when Ngoma secured his brace with a looping header over the ‘keeper.
The scoreline seemed to unsettle the fans as they started to shout “you must go” to coach Stekelenburg, but in the process the visitors added to their tally.
Ngoma was on fire as he latched onto a Bongani Zungu pass to clip the ball into the back of the net, three minutes from time.
But Ngoma wasn’t done and had the last laugh again when he struck once more, quite possibly put an end to Stekelenburg’s had coach career at the Cape club.
