Downs dismiss Bundesliga club's claims

Mamelodi Sundowns have dismissed Greuther Fuerth's claims that they stood in the way of Zimbabwe international Nyasha Mushekwi joining the German Bundesliga team.

Mushekwi was on trial with Fuerth at the end of last month, but was not signed. Fuerth president Helmut Hack said that they did not have enough time to assess the striker before the end of the transfer window.

"He should have been with us three weeks earlier, but the club did not co-operate with us. The club also prevented him from playing in a friendly. Three training sessions were not enough to assess him."

South African media said that Mushekwi's club had dismissed Hack's claims.

Sundowns spokesperson Kabelo Mosito said that they had fully co-operated with Greuther Fuerth regarding Mushekwi's trial.

"For the record, while the player was in Germany, the club actually requested for more time to assess him than what had been initially agreed and we complied with their request.

"Everything was done above board. We do not stand in the way of any of our players if they wish to pursue their careers abroad," Mosito said.
