Palacios takes responsibility for loss
A glum Augusto Palacios said he took full responsibility for a second successive heavy home defeat for champions Orlando Pirates and would be willing to accept whatever fate was determined for him by the club’s owner Irvin Khoza.
Palacios said failure to convert chances cost the Buccaneers for a second successive Saturday as they lost 3-0 to Moroka Swallows at the Orlando Stadium – the same score line as the previous week when they were beaten by SuperSport United in the MTN8.
“I’ve told the players over and over again that chances win football matches and if we don’t take them, we will not succeed. We had many chances to beat Swallows but we wasted them. But I’m not a coach who blames his players and I must take full responsibility,” he said with a pained expression after the match.
Palacios, who has already had three previous stints as Pirates coach, said he was aware that football was a results-driven business.”
“If they want to keep me, I will stay and if they want me to go, I will go,” he added.
Palacios stepped in last February to take over from Brazilian Julio Cesar Leal and lead Pirates to the championship.
But he said he was battling this season to get the right combinations going. “There are a lot of new players and we have been trying to see which combinations work,” he added.
