Full PSL fixtures released

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has released the fixtures for the 2012/13 Premier Division season with defending champions Orlando Pirates playing their first match at home against Golden Arrows and also finishing at home against Maritzburg United.

Pirates will kick off their title defence next Friday against Golden Arrows, a team they beat 4-2 in the last game of the season at Moses Mabhida to lift the title for the second season running.

After the Arrows match, Pirates will travel to Polokwane for a clash against SuperSport United at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on August 22. The Buccaneers will complete their league programme against Maritzburg at Orlando Stadium on May 18.

Pirates are not the only ones in action on the first day as Ajax Cape Town will also entertain SuperSport United at Cape Town Stadium. Both matches kick off at 8pm. Then four matches are scheduled for Saturday and two for Sunday. The league will then take a short break to make way for Fifa international matches on the week of August 13. The following week (August 18 and 19) will feature the semifinals of the MTN8.

The league has come under a lot of criticism for their delay in announcing the full list of fixtures. However, the league insisted that the delay was necessary to ensure accuracy.

"I know that football fans have been waiting with bated breath for the fixtures to be announced. Our approach has been to take a bit more time to ensure that the fixtures are as accurate as possible so that we have fewer changes during the season," said PSL general manager Derek Blanckensee.

"We now look forward to what will be an exciting 2012/13 season. Hopefully we will repeat the excitement of the last two seasons where the competition has gone right down to the wire."
