Wits confirm Kadi deal

BidVest Wits have confirmed they have signed Calvin Kadi to a potential four-year deal.

The 24-year-old has penned a two-year contract with an option for a further two years, returning to the Premier Soccer League after two seasons in Europe.

Kadi was used by Wits on Saturday in the Gauteng Sports Challenge and his signing for the team confirmed on Sunday by the club’s chief executive officer Jose Ferreira.

Kadi had been on the verge of signing a new deal with Greek club Veria, where he spent last season but was persuaded to return home

Kadi’s 17 goals took Veria to second place in the Greek second division last season and automatic promotion to the Super Division.

His goals spree contrasts with his previous year in Portugal where he scored just once and his club Portimonense were relegated.

Kadi, who started his career at Jomo Cosmos and also spent a single season at SuperSport United, left Wits in 2011 at the end of his contract, saying he wanted to prove himself overseas and use the opportunity of playing in Europe as a spring board for possible Bafana Bafana selection.

He is still to win a cap at full international level but he was a regular at under-23 level.

Kadi is originally from Polokwane and began his career at Pretoria University before Jomo Cosmos handed him his professional debut in 2005.

Wits have already added a bevy of new signings to their squad for the new season and changed their coach.
