Phala aims at top eight
Winger Thuso Phala says he expects Platinum Stars to make a push for the top eight in the coming 2012/13 Absa Premiership season.
Dikwena have back-to-back 10th place finishes to their name in the last few seasons and Phala insists that the time has come for the players to step it up a level.
Stars players have been assembling in Rustenburg from today and will officially start their pre-season on Thursday, though no permanent coach has been announced for the new season, with Cavin Johnson and Allen Freese continuing in their caretaker capacity.
“The last two seasons we really thought we had a shot at the top eight and did not make it so this season we must really go for it. I know the players will be hungry to get there,” Phala says.
“I am really looking forward to the start of training. I had a great time just relaxing with my family, but now I am ready to get back to work. It was not all rest though, we were each given our own individual programme to work on while on holiday and I have been making sure I follow that.”
Phala adds that the signing of Patrick Malokase from Orlando Pirates on a permanent deal will certainly give the players a lift after his six goals in 12 starts while on loan last season.
“I don’t know too much about new signings, but Patrick fitted in really well when he came here last season and the players really enjoyed playing with him. So if he is with us next season then that is great,” Phala says.
