Buckley, Yende join Maritzburg

Maritzburg United have announced three big signings ahead of the new season with the arrival of Delron Buckley, Mthokozisi Yende and Dutch midfielder Orlando Smeekes.

Coach Ernst Middendorp has added some serious firepower to his midfield with the capture of the trio.

Buckley is a former Bafana Bafana international with 72 caps to his name, but who has spent the last 17 years in Europe and has yet to play in the PSL.

He has had an illustrious career with in Germany, Switzerland and Cyprus, but at the age of 34 has decided to return to the land of his birth to finish his career.

Able to play on the left-wing, at left-back, or even as a striker, Buckley will give Middendorp a range of options, with the coaching knowing him well from having worked with the player in Germany and Cyprus.

Yende arrives from Kaizer Chiefs on loan for a season.

He has always found it tough to earn a starting berth at Chiefs following a 2009 move from University of Pretoria, where he was one of the star players as the then National First Division side reached the Nedbank Cup final.

Also joining is Dutch-born Orlando Smeekes, a 30-year-old forward who has played mostly in the lower leagues of Netherlands and Germany.
