Chiefs defender joins Siwelele

Bloemfontein Celtic's invasion of the transfer market continued on Thursday when they unveiled their latest signing Brent Lawler from Kaizer Chiefs.

According to the Celtic website the 22-year-old central defender who is a product of the AmaTuks Academy in Pretoria joins Siwelele on a two-year deal with an option to renew for a further two years.

Talking to the Phunya Selesele website, club CEO Khumbulani Konco expressed his delight that Lawler has joined them.

“We are delighted to have signed this young man. We have no doubt he will do well for us. He will be surrounded by equally good players and will add to the quality of our defence,” he said.

Lawler says joining Celtic is a wonderful opportunity to prove himself and also added that he is up for the big challenge to earn a starting place.

“I’m happy to be here. Change of scene is never bad. I was looking for a club where I can be given an opportunity to play and this is the place,” he explains.

“I have always wanted to play for them. Just because I’m coming from Chiefs, I’m not expecting to walk into the starting line-up. I’m going to fight for my position in the team,” he told the club website.

Lawler joined Chiefs last season but spent most of the time on the stands.
