Khuse urges Chiefs to fight on

Kaizer Chiefs caretaker coach Donald Khuse said his side still has a slight chance of winning the Premier Soccer League title, even after their shock 1-0 home loss to Maritzburg United on Tuesday.

The defeat at the Peter Mokaba Stadium left AmaKhosi six points behind the leaders with six games to play in the season but Khuse told reporters after the match: “We won’t stop trying. We really wanted to win the league this season and we are determined to still give our best.”

Khuse blamed a lack of luck for his side’s defeat in Polokwane, a second in a row since he took over from the sacked Vladimir Vermezovic.

“It was a very disappointing result in the sense that we missed many chances. We created many but the main problem was that we did not have any luck.

“You can play well but if you don’t have luck you’ll lose,” he said.

“Maritzburg had everyone behind the ball and that gave our players too many tasks as they tried to break them down.”

Chiefs’ defeat means they stay fourth on 40 points and could see the gap between them and the top sides extended to nine points by the end of Wednesday night’s matches.

Chiefs last won the league title in 2005 and since have been through three different foreign coaches.
