Paperwork delays Mwafulirwa move

Barring any unforeseen paperwork hiccups, Russell Mwafulirwa looks set to become a Jomo Cosmos player again.

Ezenkosi’s Communications Manager Lucky Mhlathe confirmed on the club website that the team is awaiting Mwafulirwas’s Police Clearance from his native Malawi in order to facilitate express approval of his residency papers in South Africa.

“As soon as this is accomplished the coast will be clear for him to lace his boots for Cosmos again, after all he’s married to a South African and he’s been in this country for over five years.” Mhlathe affirmed.

Mwafulirwa, who has played 31 times for Malawi scoring 10 goals, was on the verge of signing a contract before the midseason break but opted out to consider other clubs in the chasing pack.

He later tried out at Moroka Swallows but failed to agree terms with the Dube Birds

The 29-year-old is seeking a new lease of life in the PSL after serving out his contact at Swedish Premier League side IFK Norkopping.

His last team in South Africa was Ajax Cape Town where he spent two seasons before jetting out to Europe.

Mwafulirwa joined Jomo Cosmos in 2003 from Silver Strikers of Malawi, and formed a lethal goal-scoring partnership with compatriot Esau Kanyenda. He left Cosmos in 2006 to join Ajax Cape Town.

Meanwhile Mwafulirwa has been sweating it out with the rest of the lads at training.
