Myeni to leave Wits, Doutie off to United
Bidvest Wits will part with star winger Sifiso Myeni, club coach and chief executive Roger de Sa confirmed on Monday, a day before the mid-season transfer window deadline.
Myeni, whose contract with Wits expires in June, is expected to make a move to an undetermined club on Tuesday, and will not renew his contract with the Clever Boys.
What could complicate the situation for the 23-year-old, however, is a broken leg suffered in December that will likely keep him out for the majority of the remaining campaign – a risk for a potential buyer.
Myeni is on the Bafana Bafana selection fringes, and has been on the radar of Gauteng's big-three clubs – Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns.
"He's going to leave, but there is no [transfer] figure at the moment," De Sa said.
"We just don't know yet as to where he will go, and for whom he will sign.
"We also can't use him. He's injured and can't play for the next two months and has five months left on his contract."
The relationship between the player and Wits may have deteriorated in the last few months, with Myeni reported to have been seeking a move away from the side.
Earlier this season, he was dropped from the starting line up for two weeks by De Sa after a spat with one of the club's coaches.
Reports have linked Myeni to Pirates, while big spending Sundowns have also held an interest in the player.
Pirates administrative manager Senzo Mazingisa, however, was cautious on Monday, pouring cold water over a possible purchase of Myeni.
"At the moment that is all in speculation mode, and will remain speculation," he said.
While Mazingisa went on to deny further "speculation" regarding Sameegh Doutie leaving Pirates, a SuperSport United official said the club had signed the winger.
United midfield strongman Thandani Ntshumayelo would move the other way in a swap deal.
Both sides were finalising terms of the move on Monday afternoon.
Doutie, an SA Under-23 international, joins the Mamelodi Sundowns duo of Franklin Cale and Mabhuti Khenyeza, who moved to Amatsatsantsa a Pitori last week.
While his talent is undeniable, the more orthodox system played at United may better suit his style. At Pirates he had struggled to be effective when given game time.
"That deal is supposed to be done, and we have got him outright although I don't know for how long [his contract is with the team[," said a senior member of United management.
