Laffor misses opportunity to join Downs
SuperSport United and Liberia winger Antony Laffor has again missed another opportunity to join Mamelodi Sundowns.
According to a source Sundowns have agreed to pay SuperSport a substantial amount of R5 million for the former Jomo Cosmos player.
But, now the catch is, Laffor is yet to put pen to paper since he is in Liberia for the national team’s camp. Laffor who is a temporary captain for the Liberian team is expected to touch down in South Africa next week.
Liberia host Zimbabwe in their campaign of the campaign to the 2012 African Cup of Nations qulaifiers on Sunday.
Laffor has who has already accumulated 15 Liberian caps, would have been expected to reunite with his former teammate Katlego Mphela.
“It’s going to be a lost opportunity for him; he would have liked to join Sundowns. It’s a pity that the window shuts tonight. He wanted a change of environment.
He’s been part of winning SuperSport. He wants to embark on other challenges. It was going to be goo for his development as a player,” a source revealed.
Laffor move to Sundowns has been long anticipated after the Chloorkop side made two bids without success.
Two formal bids were turned down by SuperSport who made it clear that he was not up for sale.
“The problem is the agreement can not go on without him. He has to sign his contract. Both teams have already agreed,” said the source.
Sundowns spokesman Alex Shakoane said he was not aware on the latest development.
“I don’t know about Laffor. What I know is he plays for SuperSport,” he said.
In Rustenburg, Derrick Spencer move to Platinum Stars has been finalized.
The former Kaizer Chiefs star has agreed on a two-year contract at the Platinum.
The Sundowns players have been on loan to Maritzburg United.
Team manager Obed Legoeate said he was also clueless over the Spencer’s move.
“I’m going to home affairs to sort out work permits, I have no clue on what you are talking about,” he added.
