MTN leagues to start in January

Officials of the Cameroon Professional Football League have made the draws for the first day of play of the MTN Elite One and Two championships to begin in January 2013. Defending champions Union of Douala will play their opener against Astre of Douala at the Re-Unification stadium in Douala. However, the clash of the day will be in Garoua where old time rivals Cotonsport of Garoua and Tonnerre Kalara Club of Yaounde will lock horns in a classical game.

The three newcomers in Elite One Tonnerre, Fovu of Baham and The Douala Athletics club will have tough nuts to crack on the first day against championship pace setters, while the very electric West regional derby between Panthere of the Nde and Unisport of Bafang will open the season in Banganté. The Elite two clubs will kick start the season probably on the 15th of January pending validation by the board of directors of the League.

For the fixtures:

Elite One

Union of Douala Vs Astre of Douala

Douala Athletic Club Vs New Stars of Douala

Panthere of Banganté Vs Unisport of Bafang

Cotonsport of Garoua Vs Tonnerre Kalara Club of Yaounde

Renaissance of Ngoumou Vs Njalla Quan Sports Academy

Yong Sports Academy of bamenda Vs Sable of Batie

Canon of Yaounde Vs Fovu of Baham

Elite Two

Cosmos of Bafia Vs Feutche F.C of Bandjoun

Sahel of Maroua Vs Ngaoundéré University

Botafogo of Douala Vs Tiko United

Apejes of Mfou Vs Achille Yaounde

Scorpion of Bé Vs A.S Matelot of Douala

National Politechnic of Bambui Vs Aigle of the Menoua

Union Mouvément Sportif of Loum Vs Dragon Yaounde

Mean while only the draws for the first day of play were made because of a complex system, which will entail teams playing so many games at home or away if they were simply drawn from the lots. As such the head of the competitions committee of the League, former Indomitable lions coach Jules Nyongha told the clubs to go home and wait for the League to prepare the calendar for the rest of the season.

Meanwhile, it was announced that the League Cup will go operational this year for professional clubs only, and the winner will represent the country at the Caf Confederations cup competition alongside the winner of the cup of Cameroon. Hitherto, the place was given to the winner of the FA Cup
