Money wars at Canon
The board chair of Cameroon's most titled club Canon of Yaounde Mrs Eko Celine has fired the general manager Louis Marie Ondoua for what gross misconduct. She accused Mr. Ondoua of embezzling club money. ?
"We gave him money to buy club equipment but never saw any, club members register and buy membership cards but the money never gets into the club coffers" she told SuperSports.com, adding ?"when we went to Limbe to play against Njalla Quan FC the club was handed 180.000 frs($9000) as gate takings but the club never saw the money."
The board chair then went ahead to fire the director general promoting his deputy Ebode Roger to the position.
Nevertheless, this has received stiff opposition from the club's wisemen group that dictates the pace of the running of club affairs. The group leader and former indomitable lion Emmanuel Mve Elemva has blamed the board chair for single handedly taking decisions engaging the club without consultations. "
?She suspended the director general without real reasons as well as the president of the women's club and now she dismissed a top club official without seeking our position" Mve said adding that they would not accept the decision. For them Louis Marie Ondoua is stil the club's director general.
The situation is having a toll on the club as canon lost last Sunday at home one to three to New Stars of Douala, their worst home defeat in more than ten years. They recruited former Lion Pierre Wome Nlend in a bid to win the championship this season, but after 15 days of play Canon is on the seventh position with 22 points, five points away from leaders Panthere of the Nde.
Canon is the most titled club in Cameroon with eleven titles and on the continental scene, they won the former Club Champions Cup three times and the Cup Winners' Cup once.
