Swiss fear worst for Senderos

Switzerland's Philippe Senderos was sent to hospital for tests on an injury to his right ankle sustained in the Swiss team's shock 1-0 World Cup win over Spain on Wednesday.

Fulham defender Senderos appeared to roll his ankle when he collided with a team-mate in a bid to clear a ball and received touchline treatment before continuing to play on in obvious discomfort.

He was eventually replaced in the 36th minute, and Swiss coach Ottmar Hitzfeld said: "He has a sprained ankle, possibly a ruptured ligament.

"If that is the case, it would be very difficult to replace him."
