Rabie retains overall lead

Johann Rabie of Team Bonitas had to face the disappointment of being beaten by a single second on Stage 3 of the 2012 Le Coq Sportif Tour road cycling tour in Rustenburg, North West province, on Friday. But his overall lead remained intact.

James Perry (Tasol GT) won the undulating 34.6km individual time trial stage in a time of 49 minutes 57. 8 seconds. Rabie, winner of Stages 1 and 2 was just one second slower to claim second place with Darren Lill (Team Bonitas) rounding out the podium places in a further four seconds down.

Rabie now leads the five-day tour by 41 seconds over Jacques Janse van Rensburg (MTN Qhubeka) with David Maree (Tasol GT) a further seven seconds back in third.

Saturday’s Stage 4 is a 100km circuit race (10 laps of a 10km route) through the Kgaswane Nature Reserve near Rustenburg.
