Entry deadline for Optimum Berge en Dale Classic
Cyclists who are looking for a true readiness test before the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour are in for a treat: the Optimum Berge en Dale Classic, presented by ASG, but time is running out for entries and cyclists who would like to take part in the event only have until Wednesday, 8 February, to get their entries in.
The Classic, which welcomes Optimum Financial Services as sole title sponsor this year, is undoubtedly one of the really tough events on the local calendar. Some say it’s the toughest in Gauteng. And this year it takes place within the peak training week for cyclists leading up to the big race in Cape Town next month.
The 13th Berge and Dale will be held next Saturday (February 18) and everything is in place for another memorable experience in the West Rand’s biggest cycling event, offering distances of 97km and 55km.
It presents the perfect final long training ride on terrain that is similar in many ways to the course of the Argus.
Besides the indelible impression that the climbs left on riders last year, the smooth road surface and good race control were outstanding features of the 2011 Classic. It attracted more than 2 000 cyclists.
The Berge and Dale starts and finishes at the impressive Silverstar casino complex, which presents ample parking and a user-friendly experience pre and post race.
Silverstar, ASG Sport and other suppliers have put up great lucky-draw prizes while Action Ford and Mazda will again provide vehicle support on the day.
