Biogen Toyota duo dominate Dynamic Classic

Joanna van de Winkel (Team Biogen Toyota) conquered a hilly course and relentless August winds to win the Engen Dynamic 100km Cycle Classic.

The diminutive climber broke clear with Biogen Toyota teammate, Lynette Burger, on the tough 3km climb up the M19 from Durban to Westville just 15km into the race.

The pair worked well together to stay clear of the chasing pair of Isabel Moolman and Claire Mathews (both Mr Price) on the undulating roads through the suburbs of Pinetown, Queensburgh, Amanzimtoti and the Bluff. Even a wheel change for a puncture to Burger’s back wheel 45km in failed to count against the pair, who rode in two-up time trial fashion to reach the finish well clear of their rivals.

Van de Winkel, the 2009 Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge Champion, crossed the finish at the Moses Mabhida Soccer Stadium first in a very respectable time of 03 hrs 01 min 27 sec with Burger on her wheel claiming the runner-up place. Mathews rode a strong solo race towards the end and claimed third place for her efforts, 1 min 11 sec later.

The event was praised by professionals and fun riders alike for the full road closure and high quality of the organisation.
