Armitstead withdraws from Road Worlds

Olympic silver medalist Lizzie Armitstead has pulled out of the British team contesting the Road Cycling World Championships in the Netherlands because of an illness.

Armitstead was due to compete with five other teammates in the 129-kilometre road race in Limburg on Saturday.

British officials said Wednesday the team hasn't called up a reserve rider at this stage.

Armitstead made the headlines by winning Britain's first medal at the London Games this summer, in the road race.
