Wiggins leads Britain into World Champs

Tour de France and Olympic champion Bradley Wiggins and star sprinter Mark Cavendish are the standout names in Britain's squad for next week's road world championships.

Wiggins will compete in the road race but not the time trial, the discipline in which he won gold at the London Olympics.

Chris Froome, who finished third at the Tour and took bronze in the time trial at the games, will go up against the clock with Alex Dowsett for Britain.

Froome and Wiggins will assist Cavendish when he defends the road race title he won in Copenhagen, Denmark last year.

Lizzie Armitstead, silver medallist in the Olympic time trial, leads the women's team.

The championships begin on Sunday in Limburg, Netherlands.
