Dry weather for Olympic road race
Top favourite Mark Cavendish and the other gold medal contenders in the cycling road race will likely not face wet and slippery conditions as dry weather was forecast for Saturday as Olympic competition got underway in London.
Partly sunny skies and not too hot temperatures of 22 degrees Celsius were to provide almost ideal conditions for the cyclists in the day's big event which starts and finishes at The Mall.
The day's other outdoor final was the archery team event at Lord's Cricket Ground, with various preliminary action also taking place outdoors.
