Scarponi hearing over Ferrari links postponed

Italian anti-doping prosecutors have postponed the questioning of Michele Scarponi over his alleged links to a doctor, who was banned from cycling for consulting with athletes on banned substances.

Scarponi's questioning was scheduled for Wednesday, but the Italian National Olympic Committee says it has accepted the cyclist's request to reschedule it for some time after the Tour de France.

No new date has been set. The Tour runs from June 30 to July 22.

Scarponi, who won the 2011 Giro d'Italia after Alberto Contador was stripped of the title for doping is facing a ban of up to six months if he's found to have consulted with the doctor, Michele Ferrari. He was banned for life from the sport by the Italian Cycling Federation in 2002.

The US Anti-Doping Agency recently brought doping charges against Ferrari, who had served as a consultant on Lance Armstrong's winning teams.
