Kiwi Bewley joins Greenedge
New Zealand pursuit specialist Sam Bewley has joined GreenEdge as a numerical replacement for retired sprinter Robbie McEwen, the Australian outfit said on Tuesday.
Bewley is part of New Zealand's four-man pursuit team that will aim for an Olympic medal in the 4km event this summer but will give up the track for good after the London Games to concentrate fully on road racing.
The 24-year-old is set to make his debut for GreenEdge, the first ever Australian-registered elite cycling team, at the Tour of Bavaria which begins on Wednesday.
McEwen retired on Sunday after the final stage of the Tour of California, concluding a 17-year professional career which saw him capture 12 Tour de France stages among many other notable victories.
