‘Road Worlds will go ahead in Spain’
The 2014 Road Cycling World Championships will go ahead in Ponferrada after Spanish organisers assured the sport's governing body they have the money to stage the event.
UCI President Pat McQuaid thanked organisers for "providing us with the financial and organisational guarantees that we required."
But the UCI says final confirmation still depends on "remaining guarantees are forthcoming."
The governing body put Ponferrada on notice at a September meeting of its management board.
Spanish race organisers have struggled during the Eurozone economic crisis, with public funding cuts for Tour of the Basque Country and the San Sebastian Classic this year.
