SA hammered by England



The South African women's cricket team suffered a crushing defeat to England, in their second Super Six match in the ICC Women's World Cup cricket match played in Cuttack, India on Sunday.

Their humiliating seven wicket defeat came after the South Africa Women only managed to put 77 runs on the board before being bowled out in the 30th over.

England's medium pacer, Anya Shrubsole, did most of the damage with the ball and bagged her first five-wicket haul in international cricket, at a cost of just 17 runs. She took the first four wickets in a row leaving South Africa reeling at 18/4.

Offspinner Danielle Wyatt picked up three wickets for seven runs as 19 year-old Dane van Niekerk was the only batter to withstand the attack, finishing on 17 not out.

England reached their target in the 10th over and although they lost three quick wickets early on, the target was never enough for the South Africans to defend.

Teenager Chloe Tryon took two wickets and Marizanne Kapp one as England faltered, adding just three runs in that period, but the result was never really in doubt as they romped home, with 243 balls to spare.

Lydia Greenway and Arran Brindle steered their side over the target, and with the score on 81 for three, the pair were unbeaten on 25 and 28 respectively.

After two consecutive losses, South Africa Women play their final Super Six game on Wednesday against Sri Lanka Women in the same stadium.
