Momentum sponsors Women’s team

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced a further partnership with Momentum in support of women's cricket in South Africa. Momentum is confirmed as the official sponsor of the South African national Women’s Team over the next six years.

This sponsorship is in addition to Momentum’s commitment as official single title sponsor of all one day events, also over the next six years.

Commenting on the sponsorship, Nicolaas Kruger, CEO of Momentum said, “We have seen how cricket has the power to bring families together, spending time together cheering from the sidelines, enjoying the televised excitement on the pitch or simply playing cricket. When this opportunity presented itself, we saw this as another way to contribute to the development of the game. Cricket is a fantastic game for everyone, so why leave the women out?”

The women’s team has recently done well in international competitions and with more support they may have more of a chance to match the Proteas Men’s Team in ranking, recognition and success. Captain Mignon du Preez and her team now go into the upcoming ICC Women's World Cup 2013 with more support than ever before.

CSA Acting CEO Jacques Faul said, “Momentum has again come to the table in support of cricket in South Africa. This is a landmark sponsorship for our national women’s team, being the first significant financial backing they have ever received.

“It will go a long way to assist our development programmes to increase the depth in our women’s game and is a huge boost for captain Mignon du Preez and the rest of our national team who leave today to take part in the ICC Women’s World Cup in India.

“We wish them every success in this venture and are confident that they will break through to the top ranks of the game, particularly with the support they are now receiving from Momentum.”

Du Preez said: "This is huge step for women's cricket. I can't begin to tell you how much this sponsorship means to myself and the team. We have worked extremely hard for many years and, while we know that CSA gives us as much support as they can, this new sponsorship will take the national team and women's cricket to greater heights.

"On behalf of the team, I would like to thank Momentum and CSA for re-enforcing their faith in us and we promise to do you all proud going into the World Cup."

The Proteas men’s ODI captain, AB de Villiers was also delighted at the announcement.

“This is great news for our women’s team and we hope that this sponsorship injection will provide them with the extra resources they need to improve and become more competitive and a force in women’s cricket. We wish them all the best,” said De Villiers.

Kruger concludes, “As a company, we acknowledge the richness that diversity brings and as such we embrace the vision of gender equality and gender opportunity for all in sport, in South Africa. We look forward to seeing our ladies in action and wish them all the best for the World Cup.
