Duminy on course for rehabilitation
Proteas' batsman JP Duminy has made satisfactory progress since rupturing his left Achilles tendon during a training drill at the first cricket test against Australia at The 'Gabba in November, team manager Dr Mohammed Moosajee said on Tuesday.
Duminy had entered the next phase of his rehabilitation programme, which consisted of walking drills, and these would progress to light jogging in the next three weeks, he said.
"We're really happy with the progress that JP has made post-operation," said Moosajee.
"He is into his third month and we are right on schedule with his rehabilitation programme.
"We have taken a conservative approach to his treatment because of the sensitive nature of the injury, and we are hopeful he will recover as per schedule.
"In the last month, his training has included swimming and cycling as well as various leg strengthening drills, which make up his intensive rehab. He is also on track to begin light batting in the next three to four weeks."
Duminy was optimistic about his recovery, but was also realistic about the need to remain patient with the process.
"I'm in good spirits," he said.
"I'm glad to be up on both feet walking normally, especially after the frustrations and difficulties of being immobile. I do know that this is going to be a patience game, and I need to take it slowly.
"When the accident happened I was initially worried and unsure about the nature of the injury and its severity, but a lot of credit needs to go to the support around me, especially physiotherapists Brandon Jackson and Shane Jabaar, who have looked after me well."
