Morris sidelined for rest of T20 series

Chris Morris has been ruled out of the remainder of the Twenty20 series against New Zealand with a recurring quad injury he picked up in the opening match in Durban on Friday night.

“It was the same injury he was struggling with prior to the game,” team doctor Mohammed Moosajee said after the match.

The allrounder was four balls into his final over when he pulled up after an impressive debut, taking two wickets for 19 runs.

"He went through the full fitness protocol, he did his fitness tests and had recovered, but when he was bowling his fourth over, he went for one of those effort balls where he tried to bowl a short ball and that's where he probably aggravated it," said Moosajee.

“He's going to need a recovery period of two to three weeks, so he's out of the series.”

Morris joined Lonwabo Tsotsobe on the sidelines for the remaining two T20s after the left arm seamer was ruled out for three weeks earlier on Friday with impingement syndrome of his right ankle.

No replacements would be named for the pair.

Dale Steyn had also been released for the remainder of the series with Morne Morkel coming into what is now a 14-man squad.

South Africa play New Zealand in the second T20 in East London on Sunday.
