De Villiers and Domingo pair up for T20

Proteas captain AB de Villiers says he is looking forward to working with new Twenty20 coach Russell Domingo in their upcoming series against New Zealand and Pakistan which will be sponsored by KFC.

“We've been together in the squad for a while now and I think he's a wonderful coach with a lot of potential,” said De Villiers on Wednesday after Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced their title sponsor for the series.

South Africa were scheduled to play three 20-over matches against New Zealand on December 21 in Durban, December 23 in East London and December 26 in Port Elizabeth.

The team would be under the leadership of Domingo who, last week, was promoted to the role of head coach for the national T20 side.

“He works really hard and what makes him different from Gary [Kirsten] is he likes his stats," said De Villiers.

"He also likes to know what's going on with the field out there and before we start the game he studies the game really well.”

CSA's acting CEO Jacques Faul welcomed the fast-food giant as an international sponsor of the Proteas for the next three years.

“KFC has been a part of our family sponsoring mini-cricket for the past three years and its only natural they extend their sponsorship with us,” said Faul.

“This is a real commitment to South African cricket at all levels, from a junior level right up to a top level of excellence and will play a major role in maintaining the Proteas as a dominating force in world cricket.”
