England can bounce back - Peterson
Proteas spin bowler Robin Peterson expects England to hit back as the hosts look to level the five-match series in the third ODI at The Oval on Friday.
"Looking at their record over the last while, they've been a quality team," Peterson said on Thursday.
"You do get setbacks from time to time but they have the ability and the will to bounce back.
"We have to be on our game to be ready for what they are going to throw at us."
Peterson took 2/51 in the second ODI in Southampton on Tuesday, assisting South Africa to an 80-run victory and a 1-0 series lead, after the first game was rained out.
The next three venues may not offer the same assistance to the spinners like the dusty surface in Southampton, but Peterson hoped to be penetrative in the final fixtures.
"The wickets might not assist me as much so it might be a bit more challenging knocking over their quality players," he said.
Peterson, 33, said he was enjoying his cricket more than ever after his international career was revived in 2010, following a two-year absence from the national setup.
He has taken 34 wickets in 22 ODIs since his return to the team, at an impressive average of 23.76, despite playing a difficult bowling role during the opposition's batting powerplay.
"The last two years of cricket have been about enjoyment and learning for me," said Peterson, who made his ODI debut in 2002.
"One only gains experience by playing. That is what makes you better equipped to read situations and to act under pressure.
"I'm playing with an incredible crop of players. This time around with the national team has been the best that I have experienced.
"We enjoy playing for each other and the results speak for themselves."
Proteas team management said speedster Dale Steyn had recovered from the stiff neck that kept him out of the first two matches and was available for selection.
