Arthur considering his options

Dumped Australia cricket coach Mickey Arthur said on Thursday he is in talks about his next career move, but wants to stay in Perth.

Arthur reached a settlement on Wednesday with Cricket Australia over his sacking after he "significantly reduced" his claim for damages.

The South African had been suing for his job back or up to A$4 million, claiming there was a deliberate campaign against him and he had no choice but to take legal action.

Arthur was ousted two weeks before the start of the Ashes series in England, with two years left on his contract, and was replaced by Darren Lehmann.

Arthur did not go into detail about his future job prospects, but hinted it didn't necessarily have to be associated with cricket.

"There are a couple of options out there. I've had a couple of discussions. I'll see how that unfolds over the next few weeks," Arthur told Perth radio.

"I'm just hoping that one of the discussions I had last week comes to fruition because if it does, it will be quite exciting for me.

"The one thing my family said to me when all this happened was 'Just understand, we're not leaving Perth. We love Perth. We love WA (Western Australia)'. Whatever I do, I want to try to do it from here."

Arthur said he felt it necessary to seek a fair payout from Cricket Australia in order to exit with dignity and keep his reputation intact.

He was sacked after Australia lost a test series in India 4-0 and followed it up with a poor showing at the Champions Trophy in England.
