India level series with massive win

India's spinners proved too much for England as they were bowled out for 158 to hand the hosts a 127-run win in their second one-day international in Kochi on Tuesday.

Live Scoring: India v England

Chasing a daunting 286 to win, England recovered well after losing Ian Bell in the second over, but Bhuvneshwar Kumar dashed their hopes with an amazing 10-over spell in which he first took the wicket of Alastair Cook, and then snared Kevin Pietersen and Eoin Morgan inside three balls.

England could not recover and crumbled against the spin attack of Ravichandran Ashwin (3-39) and Man of the Match Ravindra Jadeja (2-12), losing their last six batsmen for 48 runs.

Kumar finished with 3-29.

Earlier, India's middle order boosted their total to 285 for six after they opted to bat.

On a very hot and humid day, England drew first blood when they removed both openers within an over of each other.

Jade Dernbach accounted for the out-of-sorts Gautam Gambhir when he nipped one back, and uprooted the stationary left-hander's stumps for eight.

Ajinkya Rahane was equally late moving his feet to Steven Finn who disturbed his wickets through the gate.

Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh combined for a patient third-wicket partnership of 53, but both failed to capitalise on hard-earned starts as they fell for 37 and 32 respectively.

England's spin twins of Samit Patel and James Tredwell kept the hosts quiet on a pitch that was progressively getting slower, and their 20 overs yielded only 91 runs.

The hosts were still looking at a comfortable target of around 220, and even though Suresh Raina brought up his 26th ODI half-century, he consumed 78 deliveries for his final total of 55.

However, when Mahendra Singh Dhoni was joined by Jadeja, the pair counter-attacked from the off, and in the final 10 overs added 96 runs.

They focussed on Dernbach in particular, and though he did pick up the wicket of the Indian captain in the final over for 72, the hosts still took 20 runs off those six balls.

Jadeja finished unbeaten on 61 off only 37 deliveries.

The teams now move east to Dhoni's home town of Ranchi, for the third ODI on Saturday.
