Trott, Bell anchor England

An unbeaten 67-run partnership between Jonathan Trott and Ian Bell enabled England to reach stumps on 161 for three on the fourth day of the fourth and final test against India in Nagpur on Sunday.

Trott will resume on 66 and Bell on 24.

Kevin Pietersen lost his wicket soon after tea, deciding not to play at a delivery from Ravindra Jadeja, which went on to hit his off-stump for six.

Earlier, two unfortunate decisions against England reduced them to 81 for two at tea.

Both Alastair Cook and Nick Compton will lament the absence of DRS, as the captain lost his wicket after facing 93 deliveries for a vigilant 13, adjudged caught behind without having touched the ball.

Umpire of the Year, Kumar Dharmasena, lifted the finger without hesitation, adding to his run of poor calls in the match.

Compton fell victim to umpire Ian Gould, the delivery prior to the break, when he edged Pragyan Ojha onto his pads, and on appeal was given out leg before.

The visitors lead by 85 runs, and would hope for no more back luck, as they cannot afford the hosts to sneak victory, with the series being poised 1-2.

Earlier, India declared their first innings on 326 for nine - trailing by four runs - after a curious morning's play where they posted only 29 runs, turning down singles, and losing the wicket of Pragyan Ojha to Monty Panesar.

Ravichandran Ashwin finished not out on 29.

At lunch, England were 17 without loss off 13 overs.
