Bob Carter appointed NZ assistant coach

Former Northamptonshire allrounder and coach Bob Carter has been re-appointed as an assistant with the New Zealand cricket team, likely with responsibility for its most troubled area of batting.

Carter was previously an assistant coach under John Bracewell and has recently coached Canterbury province. He replaces Australian Trent Woodhill, while Damien Wright remains as bowling coach under new head coach Mike Hesson.

New Zealand director of cricket John Buchanan said "Bob brings a wealth of experience to the role having coached with Northamptonshire, Canterbury and with the Black Caps and will provide valuable support to head coach, Mike Hesson, and captain, Ross Taylor."

Outgoing coach John Wright this week blasted New Zealand's batsmen, saying they lacked accountability and the brutal self-analysis necessary at test level.
