Sudden storm stops KKR v DC match

A sudden and vicious storm caused the Indian Premier League match between the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Deccan Chargers to be abandoned at Eden Gardens on Tuesday.

The storm struck with such speed and ferocity that the match officials and captains were out in the middle waiting for a toss that never happened when the covers had to be hurriedly brought on to the field.

The damaging storm, which blew down a temporary security structure and forced three people to be taken to hospital, also left huge puddles of water around the boundary, which was the main problem in terms of starting the game once the rain stopped.

Both teams get a point each, meaning the winless Deccan Chargers are finally on the board, while the Knight Riders are now a point behind leaders, the Delhi Daredevils, who have a game in hand.
