Weather thwarts Dolphins, Knights again
The Momentum One Day Cup match between the Sunfoil Dolphins and Chevrolet Knights was abandoned without a ball being bowled at The Oval in Pietermaritzburg on Sunday.
Overnight rain and some morning drizzle had contributed to a wet outfield, which had initially delayed the start, and with no sun about, umpires Earl Hendrikse and Ian Howell decided that conditions were unsuitable to play.
The two officials initially delayed proceedings until a second inspection at 11h30, when the match was called off.
The result, which means each team takes two points each, is a major blow to the home side’s play-off chances.
Lance Klusener’s men are momentarily up to third on 14 points, but will certainly be overhauled by the other play-off chasing sides, who all have two games in hand.
The Knights are up to second on 16 points, although the Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras and Nashua Titans can overtake them later on Sunday.
