Rain ruins Dolphins-Warriors clash

The Momentum One Day Cup match between the Chevrolet Warriors and the Sunfoil Dolphins on Friday was abandoned due to inclement weather at Sahara Stadium Kingsmead.

Full Scorecard – Warriors v Dolphins

The Warriors won the toss and decided to send their opponents in to bat.

The Dolphins started their innings very conservatively, only scoring 12 runs in their opening five overs.

The Warriors' veteran opening bowler, Makhaya Ntini, picked up the wicket of Jonathan Vandiar for one with a back of a length deliver that found the edge and was taken at first slip by Smuts in the fifth over.

The men from Durban continued to struggle against the Warriors attack, managing only 29 runs from their opening ten overs.

Andrew Birch was the pick of the bowlers, regularly hitting a fantastic length in his opening spell. His figures read: five overs, two maidens, no wicket for only nine runs.

With Ntini having bowled six overs, Warriors captain Davy Jacobs turned to Wayne Parnell. The 23-year-old started poorly, with Smit hitting two boundaries in Parnell's opening over of nine runs.

However, in his second over, he managed to find Smit's outside edge and Jacobs made no mistake with the gloves to send the Dolphins captain back to the pavilion for 24.

The Warriors managed to bowl a single delivery to new batsman Vaughn van Jaarsveld before the heavens opened and the players made their way off the ground with their total on 67 for the loss of two after 17 overs. Opening batsman Cameron Delport was left unbeaten on 38.

Both sides will be disappointed with sharing the points, as they will remain at the bottom of the log with two points each.
