Tahir will be our trump-card – Toyana

33 year-old, Imran Tahir, claimed 12 wickets against the Dolphins in his previous match and bizhub Highveld Lions coach Geoff Toyana believes his form will continue.

“Imran has been bowling well of late, I’m sure he can be our trump-card against the Cobras”, he told supersport.com.

Toyana believes Tahir can be the man that separates his side from the Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras and help his team to claim a victory when the two teams meet in their Sunfoil Series match at Sahara Park Newlands in Cape Town on Thursday.

The Lions find themselves well behind the Cobras, who top the league table, but Toyana feels his side can still catch the Cape-based side.

“We may be 25 points behind them, but we still have a game in hand. So if we beat the Cobras and then go on to win our game in hand, we’ve basically caught them, and that’s exactly what we want to do. We’re looking very forward to this game in Cape Town” he said.

Toyana also insisted that the constant changing of his side due to national call-ups does not affect them.

“I’m very happy for the likes of Aaron Phangiso and Quinton de Kock. They deserve their chance in the national side. It’s great for us as a franchise to be producing these players. We clearly have great strength in depth as we’ve got through tough games without them which shows how well we doing.

Star allrounder, Chris Morris is an injury doubt for the Lions though. Toyana said “Chris has travelled with us, but he is going to have to get through a fitness test in the morning to see whether or not he’s able to play”

The 38-year-old coach also confirmed that the side will be strengthened with the return of Thami Tsolekile to the starting eleven.

The match is scheduled to start at 10:00am on Thursday.
