Hendricks rattles Warriors in East London

The Nashua Mobile Cape Cobras gained the ascendancy in their Sunfoil Series match against the Chevrolet Warriors due to a superlative bowling spell by Beuran Hendricks and an extraordinary collapse by the hosts at Buffalo Park in East London on Thursday.
The Warriors were in a reasonable position on 51 for one at lunch on Thursday, but suffered a batting collapse as they lost nine wickets for 56 runs in 20.4 overs of mayhem in the early afternoon session. They were dismissed for 107.
Hendricks was the destroyer-in-chief with 5-34 in 7.4 overs.
Basheer Walters and Ayabulela Gqamane led a spirited Warriors fightback to restrict the visitors to 165 for six at stumps, a first-innings lead of 58 runs.
Walters had Alistair Gray caught at first slip by Christiaan Jonker for 17 early on.
The in-form Andrew Puttick was trapped in front by Andrew Birch to reduce the Cobras to 50 for two. Puttick contributed 15.
Stiaan van Zyl looked in control for most of his innings before he succumbed to Gqamane, pushing a short delivery to short midwicket.
Van Zyl scored 35 and his departure left the Cobras on 96 for three.
Gqamane sent another middle-order batsman packing in his next over when another short delivery induced a false pull shot from Yaseen Vallie and he was caught at square leg by Gurshwin Rabie for 25.
Shortly before the close, Walters removed Qaasim Adams for 16 to end a threatening fifth-wicket parthership of 58 off 84 deliveries with Ontong. Adams was caught behind.
Walters finished with 3-45 in 10.5 overs and Gqamane with 2-39 in eight overs.
Earlier, Hendricks captured four wickets in the space of eight deliveries in the early afternoon session. He switched to the City End after lunch and produced wind-assisted swing to trouble all the batsmen.
Arno Jacobs, for 5, Jonker for a first-ball duck, Simon Harmer for nought and Gqamane for a duck succumbed to Hendricks’s superlative swing bowling during his destructive spell.
Hendricks captured four wickets in eight deliveries as the Warriors slipped from 72 for three to 76 for seven in the first hour after lunch.
A double-break by the Cobras in the first three overs after lunch gave the visitors the edge.
Jon-Jon Smuts was bowled by a swinging delivery from the veteran Charl Langeveldt in the second over after lunch and departed for two.
In the next over, Lizaad Williams accounted for Davy Jacobs.
Jacobs edged him to the wicketkeeper, Vilas, and was gone for 25 as the Warriors slipped to 58 for three.
Jacobs hit five boundaries in his 47-ball stay.
Ashwell Prince attempted a drive outside off-stump but got the faintest of edges and was caught behind by Vilas off Johann Louw for 12.
Walters attempted a counter-offensive to unsettle the attack, but he nudged it to the wicketkeeper with his glove to present Louw with a third wicket.
Walters scored 14 and his departure saw the hosts deeper into the mire on 102 for nine.
Hendricks earned his five-for by bowling Birch for 12.
Louw finished with 3-37 in eleven overs.
