Warriors and Knights face Sunday start

The Chevrolet Warriors and Knights will take part in a somewhat different Sunfoil Series match when they play each other in a match starting on a Sunday.

The four-day match was originally scheduled to start on Thursday, October 25 in East London but because all the South African franchise players are said to have been invited to the final of the Champions League Twenty in Johannesburg on October 28 it was decided to shift the Warriors/Knights Sunfoil Series game.

The match will now start on Sunday October 21 and run until Wednesday in East London.

Dave Emslie, chief executive of the Warriors, said that the match had been moved so that the players could attend the Champions League T20 final but that they had not received any formal invitations yet.

“We haven’t received our invitations yet, we are waiting at our post box,” Emslie joked.

“The request came from Champions League through Cricket South Africa and we had no problem moving the match in the national interest,” he told supersport.com.

Emslie did not foresee the Warriors’ players having any problems adapting to the change of date and said that it could actually work out in their favour as it would give them more preparation time before their next game, a Momentum One Day Cup match against the Knights in Kimberley on November 4.

“It doesn’t make any difference to the players. They are professionals and it doesn’t matter if you play on a Thursday or a Sunday. In fact, it has worked in our favour as it gives us a long break before our next game in the Momentum One Day Cup,” he explained.

The Warriors are currently second on the Sunfoil Series log with 29.92 points after three games while the Knights, who have had two games called off without a ball being bowled before of inclement weather, are fourth on the table with 19.68 points.
