CSA announces franchise fixture list

Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Thursday announced the full fixture list for the 2012/13 franchise domestic season.

The format is much the same as in previous seasons starting with the four-day Sunfoil Series. There will be a break in November and early December for the Momentum 1-Day Cup. The Sunfoil Series then resumes from late December to mid-February to be followed by the T20 Domestic Cup.

The season starts on September 20 with the first round of the Sunfoil Series and finishes on April 8 with the final of the T20 Domestic Cup.

“As always we have tried to fulfil the joint objectives in dovetailing the fixtures in line with the Proteas’ commitments and to do everything we can to promote domestic cricket,” commented CSA Acting CEO Jacques Faul. “With this in mind CSA’s nationally contracted players should be available for the knockout phases of both the Momentum 1-Day Cup and the T20 Domestic Cup.

“With the early start to the season our two representatives in the Champions League T20 will both be able to play two rounds of the Sunfoil Series and this should help them to find form ahead of this important inter-continental competition.

“They will, of course, be without those Proteas involved in the ICC World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka.”

Faul added that the playing structure of the various domestic competitions would be the same as last season with double rounds in all three formats.

“We are sticking to the changes we introduced last season for the knockout phases of the Momentum 1-Day Cup and the T20 Domestic Cup which proved to be both effective and popular.

“The league winners will qualify automatically for the final while the second and third placed teams will be involved in a playoff to gain the right to the other place in the final.”
