Warriors crash out of CLT20

The Chevrolet Warriors crashed out of the Champions League T20 after they imploded to hand Somerset a 12-run win in their Champions League T20 match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on Wednesday.

Chasing 147 for victory the Warriors had looked well set on 79 for one in the 12th over but the Eastern Cape franchise lost seven wickets for the addition of just 48 runs to be held to 134 for eight.
The win secured Somerset a place in the semifinals
Somerset’s bowlers shared the wickets to fall with seamers Alfonso Thomas and Steve Kirby picking up two for 16 and two for 33 respectively while left-arm spinner Murali Kartik claimed two for 23.
The Warriors had made a good start to their run-chase as Ashwell Prince (10) and Jon-Jon Smuts (38) put on 30 runs for the first wicket before Prince was deceived by a slower ball from Kirby to offer up a catch to Thomas at wide mid-off.
Colin Ingram and Jon-Jon Smuts put on 49 runs for the second wicket before Ingram, who had looked comfortable at the crease in scoring 31 off 25 balls, top-edged a slower delivery from seamer Adam Dibble and was caught at deep square leg.
The Warriors slumped to 82 for three in the 13th over when Jon-Jon Smuts slapped a delivery from left-arm spinner Mural Kartik to backward point as the South African team battled to get to grips with a pitch which was becoming slower and slower as the match wore on.
Johan Botha contributed just nine before he was dismissed by Kirby, caught at long-off, before Kelly Smuts (8) was trapped leg-before by Kartik as the Warriors crashed to 101 for five, still needing 46 runs off just 27 balls.
Craig Thyssen scored 12 off 11 balls before he top-edged a short ball from Alfonso Thomas to deep midwicket before Thomas grabbed his second wicket of the over when he had Wayne Parnell caught at wide long-on.

Wicketkeeper Athenkosi Dyili (0) was the last man dismissed when he was bowled by Roelof van der Merwe.
Craig Kieswetter had earlier compiled a valuable half-century to guide Somerset to 146 for four.
Opening bat Kieswetter scored 56 not out off 52 balls with four fours and three sixes and he helped stabilise Somerset’s innings after the English county side had stumbled to 75 for three in the 12th over.
The right-handed Kieswetter’s knock was made all the more impressive as the Warriors’ spinners turned in a superb performance on a pitch which offered up appreciable turn for the tweakers.
Off-spinner Botha bowled with immaculate control to return figures of one for 20 off four overs while left-armer Nicky Boje was almost as economical as his four overs cost 21 runs.
Somerset, after winning the toss and electing to bat, were in early trouble when they lost the wicket of the big-hitting Peter Trego (0) in the first over when he was caught behind caught off a vicious delivery from left-arm seamer Lonwabo Tsotsobe which climbed sharply on the batsman.
Van der Merwe entertained briefly as he blazed his way to 32 off just 16 balls before he skyed a delivery from left-arm spinner Jon-Jon Smuts to Rusty Theron at midwicket.
James Hildreth (21) was caught at deep backward square leg off a Botha delivery before Kieswetter and Jos Buttler (30) combined for a fourth-wicket partnership of 60.
The right-handed Buttler struck some massive blows with a six he hit off of Boje travelling 104 metres to clear the roof of the grandstand.
But his knock was cut short when he was caught at mid-on off a delivery from seamer Theron.
Theron was the most economical of the Warriors’ pacemen as he collected one for 23 off three overs.
