Vuvuzelas banned from T20 Champs
Vuvuzelas will not be permitted at Airtel Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) matches, starting at Wanderers on Friday, 10 September, when the Highveld Lions host Mumbai Indians.
The CLT20 Governing Council said on Tuesday it is confident that fans will have an enjoyable experience at the matches, given the high quality of cricket on offer, and the top entertainment elements that have been sourced.
CLT20 governing council member, Gerald Majola, said: “We have had various discussions with key stakeholders and we feel the vuvuzela is not appropriate for cricket.
“Fans at CLT20 matches will be treated to non-stop music, dancers, cheerleaders, and of course, the main attraction, the action out in the middle.
“There is no doubt that the vuvuzela added to the atmosphere during the recent Fifa World Cup, but it is certainly not the sound of cricket.”
Fans are reminded that a number of other items will not be permitted at matches.
Prohibited Items:
• Firearms, weapons, knives and imitation weapons
• Fireworks, explosives, flammable items (exceptions: cigarette lighters/matches)
• Mace/gas containers (exceptions: aerosol deodorant, medication or insect repellent)
• Glass bottles or containers (exceptions: soft drinks/water in plastic bottles/flasks, perfume, prescription medication, insect repellent bottles)
• Alcohol
• Illegal drugs or narcotics
• Cans (soft drinks and alcohol)
• Braai equipment
• Animals (except guide dogs)
• Air horns/blow horns, vuvuzelas
• Tripods for cameras
• Video cameras or camcorders
The CLT20 extravaganza, which features 23 matches over 17 days, runs from September 10 to September 26.
Tickets for CLT20 are available from Computicket and are priced from R30 to R200. Fans can also purchase tickets directly from the host venues.
