Proteas skipper backs SA CLT20 teams
Proteas captain, Graeme Smith, has urged cricket fans to come out in support of 10 of the world’s top franchise teams, when they battle it out for glory in the Airtel Champions League Twenty20, which starts in exactly 10 days.
Smith was speaking from George, where the Proteas are holding their pre-tour camp ahead of Zimbabwe’s visit to South Africa in October.
“The Airtel CLT20 is a great opportunity for South Africa to once again showcase it’s hosting skills, especially after a successful 2010 Fifa World Cup. Fans get to see champion cricket with the best taking on the best.
“There is real excitement about the Warriors and Highveld Lions participation in the event, and hopefully they can go on and make South African cricket proud with a good showing.
“We are backing them all the way, and look forward to seeing one, if not both, of them in the final on September 26.”
CLT20 governing council member Gerald Majola, said: “It is hard to believe that there is just 10 days to go to the Airtel CLT20. Teams have started arriving, and you can feel the excitement in the air. We look forward to welcoming fans of the various teams to South Africa over the next few days. It is going to be a magical tournament.”
The Airtel CLT20 takes place from 10-26 September across four venues in South Africa -- Wanderers, Centurion, St George’s Park and Kingsmead -- as 10 of the world’s top franchise cricket teams battle it out for Twenty20 glory.
The first match of the tournament takes place at the Wanderers Stadium on September 10, when the Highveld Lions take on the Mumbai Indians.
The two semifinals are scheduled for Kingsmead (September 24) and Centurion (September 25). The Final takes place at Wanderers Stadium on September 26.
Tickets are priced from R30, and are available from Computicket outlets, online at www.computicket.com or via telephone, 083 915 8000. Fans can also purchase tickets directly from the host venues.
