Windies cascading into steep downward spiral

You know, I don't mind watching a team who is getting soundly beaten providing they are trying as hard as possible and going about their game in a professional manner.

I have a sneaky feeling that the West Indies have given up the ghost in this one-day series and are simply relying on some individual brilliance to propel them to victory. If any assessment is correct, then quite simply they are not giving it their best.

They are certainly not behaving in a professional manner either. I mentioned on Extra Cover that most of the West Indies players were refusing to shake hands after the game which shocked and infuriated all the South African players. That situation has improved somewhat with some of the South Africans insisting on it happening.

Another incident that did not impress anyone on Sunday in Grenada was the non appearance of Carl Hooper for the toss of the coin. He eventually sauntered out seventeen minutes late - minus any form of apology! This put enormous pressure on our television broadcast causing planned and pre-recorded inserts revolving around the build-up to the game to be dropped. It also meant Shaun Pollock stood out in the hot sun twiddling his thumbs for some twenty minutes patiently waiting. I can certainly think of some international captains who wouldn't have been that forgiving.

In my mind all this adds up to the fact that the Windies have cascaded into a steep downward spiral that is leaving their fans and cricket lovers dismayed and disillusioned.

Guess what - The South Africans couldn't be happier!!
